Why TV REALLY Makes You Gain Weight

Watching too much TV could be the reason you struggle to lose weight – but NOT because of the inactivity it promotes…

We’ve all seen the stereotypical couch potato. They spend their time slumped on the sofa, watching TV, and piling on the pounds. Most people WRONGLY think the weight gain is caused by the slothful inactivity that TV promotes. Not true…

The inactivity of watching TV does contribute to weight gain, BUT this is only a small part of the story. There is a much bigger reason why TV helps you pile on the pounds. First, let me explain this…

Exercise

The human body is amazingly efficient. You can do all sorts of activities whilst burning a relatively small amount of calories.

According to the Harvard Medical School, a 150lb person would burn 28 calories watching TV for half an hour. Compare this with various other activities…Put your TV on a crash diet.

  • Sleeping – 23 calories per half hour
  • Reading – 42 calories per half hour
  • Cooking – 93 calories per half hour
  • Wiring and plumbing – 112 calories per half hour
  • Shopping with cart – 130 calories per half hour
  • Walking – 149 calories per hour
  • Jogging – 223 calories per half hour

Most activities, with the exception of sleeping, DO burn more calories than watching TV. However when you consider that one pound of fat contains 3500 calories, it’s not that big a difference. There is only so much walking and jogging you are going to do in a week.

In comparison, look at the amount of calories that are contained in some popular snacks…

  • Oreos (each) – 50 calories
  • Doritos 1oz – 140 calories
  • Can of Coca-Cola – 144 calories
  • McDonald’s fries (medium) – 330 calories
  • Chocolate Croissant – 440 calories
  • KFC Chicken Sandwich – 482 calories
  • Big Mac – 560 calories
  • Cheese Whopper – 711 calories
  • Pringle’s 6oz can – 840 calories

When comparing the 2 charts, it shows that only a small amount of snacks require a lot of activity to burn off.

For example, you need to walk for half an hour to burn off 3 Oreos.

You need to jog for one hour to burn off the calories in a chocolate croissant.

It’s down to programming, and I don’t mean TV programming. It’s down to programming your mind…

TV constantly bombards your brain with adverts. Take note of them when you next watch TV.

They often promote food, greed, and worry. This is a BIG recipe for gaining weight.

Look at the food adverts. Are they advertising healthy natural foods such as fruits, vegetables and meats? Hell no. It’s all snacks, chocolate, fizzy drinks and ready meals. Through repetition, advertisers normalise these snacks and convenience foods as THE eating choices to make.

And they also use hypnosis

Advertisers are hypnotising you to trust and want their products. Most people don’t realise this is happening, but take a look in your kitchen. How many products do you have that advertise on TV? There are many thousands of products that don’t ever advertise on TV, but most people only trust the ones they see on TV. They seem safe and familiar.

Most of us are subtlety swayed to buy these products through years of repetition and cajoling on TV adverts. This is bolstered through hypnotic principals. Here’s how they use hypnosis…

You may have heard me say this before – a hypnotic trance is a natural state of mind. It occurs when we’re “zoned out” from our conscious world. It is a daydream type state of mind. This happens when we’re driving, engrossed in a book, and watching TV.

Yes, you often slip into a light hypnotic trance when watching TV.

Then what happens? Highly persuasive adverts repeatedly bombard your brain whilst you’re in this suggestible state. You may not be paying attention, but it’s all going into your subconscious.

Advertisers

Advertisers convince you that you need their products. They are rarely natural healthy items – there’s less money in that. A producer that advertises knows there is more money in a sugar and water fizzy drink than in a natural fruit drink. A sugar and water drink is much cheaper to produce, yet they will command a similar price. Producers need to brain wash you into believing it is better in order to convince you to buy vastly inferior products for the same price.

Look at the price of Sunny D. It cost’s about the same as fresh orange juice. However it contains only 2% concentrated fruit juice (not even fresh), which is bulked up with water, sugar and various nasties. Sadly, advertisers have convinced many people to buy this instead of natural fruit juice. They have appealed to kids who pressure their parents into buying a “cool” version of fruit juice. Do they care that it provides virtually none of the health benefits? Apparently not.

Are McDonald’s burgers really the best burgers you can buy for the money? I’d wager that if I brought someone from 100 years ago who hadn’t seen their adverts and compared it to one of my home made burgers (which are far cheaper and healthier), they’d pick mine every time.

In fact there are probably burger places near to where you live that produce tastier, healthier, and cheaper burgers than McDonald’s. McDonald’s are NOT master burger makers – they are master advertisers.

Final thoughts

TV influences your thoughts and actions A LOT. If you’re spending several hours per day watching TV, then your are receiving loads of negative influence. This will come out in your thoughts, habits, and choices.

The sugary, salty, over processed snacks and foods will be normalised to you. This is because you see them all the time. They feel safe and familiar. The truth is that the vast majority of them are sensibleeatingcase-150x150very cheap to produce since they are stuffed with sugar, salt and chemicals. This keeps their costs low, but your weight high. Here’s why…

These products contain very little nutrition, but lots of calories. This leaves you craving for more because they don’t feed you properly. This leads to overeating calories, but with poor nutrition. That’s a real lose-lose situation for you.

Switch off your TV and find other things to do. At the very least mute it and look away when the adverts come on. Only then can you begin to free your mind and make proper choices as to what foods you should really be eating. Once you’ve got it out of your head that these are the foods you should be eating, you can finally lose weight once and for all.

The truth is: most people really don’t know what “cellulite” actually is, or, what causes this odd appearance of the lower body trouble zones…”

This is no surprise as there actually is no such thing as ‘cellulite’… So how do we get rid of something which doesn’t exist?”

Here’s the answer:

“The word, “cellulite”, was cleverly made-up several decades ago, in a European beauty-spa, to DESCRIBE the bumpy, shadowy and dimpled appearance of skin in the lower body trouble zones of the female body. (butt, hips, thighs, legs)”

The beauty spas then started cashing-in and profiting big-time by marketing “beauty” services and products to get rid of “cellulite”. And if you’re like most women who’ve been challenged by this issue, then you probably already know all of those passive and superficial beauty treatments do not get rid of the dented shadows and mushy dimples on your buns, legs and thighs.”

In order to make your lower-body smooth, tight and attractive, there are 5 steps to follow.

Here they are:

5 Critical Keys to KILL Your Cellulite

1: You cannot get rid of the dimples and shadows (cellulite) by rubbing an odd gel, weird lotion or goopy cream on your trouble zones and problem spots.

So, stop using them – as some can actually make your cellulite worse.

Despite the fact that there are dozens of supposed ‘cellulite reduction creams’ on the market, there is no possible way for any one of them, no matter how expensive, to get rid of your cellulite. Cellulite is not a skin problem. Its an underlying structural issue, that can only be corrected by reversing the cause of atrophied muscle fibers directly beneath your “cellulite” trouble spots.”

Since the squishy dimples and shadows are a superficial symptom of a problem below the surface; it’s impossible for the creams, lotions or gels to have any physiological impact on the cause of the issue…”

2: Risky and expensive ‘medi-spa treatments’ can only reduce your bank account – not your cellulite problems. And there are many consumer reports about women being seriously scarred or injured as well.

Stay away from these as the FDA reports show women who’ve been scarred or injured for life.

Painful, dangerous and uncomfortable services ranging from endermologie to body-wrapping have been proven to be totally ineffective when it comes to treating cellulite. However, advertising and marketing loopholes allow these services to be cleverly marketed to desperate women who are at wits end with the unattractive dimples and shadows on the lower-body problem areas.”

3: The unattractive dimples, shadows and saggy ripples known as cellulite are not ‘genetic’ and you are NOT stuck with them forever if you have them.

Falsely believing this will prevent you from getting rid of your cellulite. So, don’t entertain this nonsense for 1 second.

These two ridiculous myths are often passed around by ‘neighborhood know-it-alls’ – and many women actually believe these 2 myths – especially if they haven’t found the right way to get rid of the cellulite. EVERYONE puts on weight by consuming more calories than they burn. It’s IMPOSSIBLE to put on weight if you eat the same calories you burn – the laws of physics don’t allow it.

***All you need to do is eat fewer calories than you burn if you want to lose weight.***

There are different reasons why people eat more calories than they burn. If you discover what causes you to eat too much, you are in a powerful position to do something about it…

You actually DON’T eat a lot

You DON’T have to eat huge amounts to be overweight. This is REALLY common – you slightly, but consistently overeat. This causes the pounds to gradually pile on.

You may put on just one pound a month, which is not noticeable. After a year you are 12 pounds heavier. In 3 years, this becomes 36 pounds.

Because it’s gradual, you don’t notice getting heavier – it creeps up on you.

If this sounds like you, then you need to make some small but permanent changes to your lifestyle. Reduce sugary drinks and snacks. Increase your activity levels, for example go for a walk 2 or 3 times per week. Reduce your intake of cakes, biscuits, bread, and other baked foods. Make small but permanent changes. This could be enough to put you in a calorie deficit, instead of a surplus.

It takes time, but the weight will gradually creep off.

You actually DO eat a lot

Do you eat more than you realise? Some people eat more than they realise or admit. They are in denial about how much they eat. Often these people skip meals and graze instead. This hides how much they are really eating. They think they’re saving calories by skipping meals, but the snacks more than make up for it.

If this sounds like you then you need to learn to be honest with yourself. Write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink. Review this at the end of each day and see where you can cut calories.

There’s no point kidding yourself. You won’t lose weight unless you are honest.

You eat low quality food

Do you know how to cook? If you eat lots of processed and snack foods, then this could be the cause of your weight gain. The problem with these types of foods is that they contains lots of calories, but little nutrition. This leaves your body craving for more food, because it needs more nutrition.

Natural foods such as vegetable, fruits and meat feed you properly. They give your body what it needs, so it doesn’t crave more.

Eat more foods in their natural state. A good rule of thumb is to eat foods which were available 1000 years ago. It helps A LOT if you learn to cook.

You drink too much

Alcohol and sugary drinks add significant amounts of calories to your diet. Drinking alcohol and sugary drinks daily makes a significant contribution to your weight gain.

Drink more water or soda water, as these contain no calories. It may take you a few days to get used to it, but you will.

Reduce the sugar you add to tea and coffee. 2 teaspoons of sugar in one drink is 10g. If you drink 4 per day, that’s 8 teaspoons, or 40g per day. Over a month it’s a whopping 1200 calories.

Final thoughts

In the majority of cases, people put on weight because they consume more calories than they burn – and they can avoid this.

It’s easy to overeat in modern society. We are constantly bombarded with tempting food that is usually high in calories. We have many labour saving devices which are fantastic, but stop us burning calories.

A hypnotherapist is your friend. They help guide you into a hypnotic trance. This is NOT a battle of wills. They are there to help you. You can drift into trance on your own, but it is easier with the help of a hypnotherapist.

Will Hypnosis Help Me?Worried that you’ll go under some sort of spell? Don’t be. A hypnotic trance is a daydream state, and you’re fully in control. It’s like when you are daydreaming, staring into the distance. This state of mind allows for greater access to your subconscious mind. This is important, and I’ll explain why later.

Once you are helped into a hypnotic trance, a hypnotherapist will give your subconscious mind suggestions to act on. This is something you have pre agreed, like eating less, quitting smoking, being more confident etc. These suggestions usually make an immediate impact. Here’s why…

Your subconscious mind

Your subconscious mind is responsible for all your automatic thoughts, actions and urges. This is great for helping you automate many tasks, such as breathing, heart beat, and even driving and playing musical instruments.

Have you ever driven several miles and realised you could not remember the journey? This is because you slipped into a hypnotic trance. Your powerful subconscious mind was doing the driving.

Your subconscious mind is here to make your life easier. It will do a lot of thinking for you, without conscious intervention. Sometimes your subconscious gets things wrong.

For example you may see your parents react with fear at a small spider when you’re a child. This programs your subconscious mind to believe that spiders are life threatening. In order to protect you, your subconscious mind automatically triggers a fear response whenever you see them.

You may know that the spider is not dangerous – on a conscious level, but that’s not enough. Your subconscious mind ignores this and leaves you shaking with fear.

You must tell your subconscious mind that spider are safe in order to remove a spider phobia. This is why hypnosis is so effective.

Most spider phobics know on a conscious level that spiders are relatively harmless. They can’t help the fear response that is automatically triggered by their subconscious mind. The only way to change this is to reprogram their subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is great for this.

Here’s another example of how your subconscious mind can get things wrong…

Someone who over eats often have issues deep in their subconscious mind where they fear they may starve. This causes them to “fill their boots” whenever food is around. As food is abundant these days, they eat too much. Consciously they know they won’t starve, but not subconsciously. This gives them the urge to eat too much.

A hypnotherapist can talk to their subconscious and reassure it that there is no danger of starving. The result is that someone immediately begins to eat the right amount and will eventually reach a healthy natural weight. (Check out my article Hypnosis For Weight Loss?)

How To Use Affirmations…

Want to get the best out of yourself? Be more successful? If so, learn how to use affirmations. If you already use them, you must use them correctly – which I’ll show you in a moment…

Many top professionals use positive affirmations to get the best out of themselves. They repeat affirmations such as “I am a winner” in order to psych themselves up.

As you are probably aware, a lot of success is down to mindset. There is no better way to get yourself into a positive and successful thinking mindset than by using positive affirmations.

Positive affirmations can be used everywhere in your life. They can be used at the dawn of a new day, so you start as you mean to go on. They can be used at the start of any activity, such as a presentation or even writing. Imagine saying to yourself 10 times, “I’m a great writer” before you start writing. Wouldn’t this would help get some fire in your belly?

If you consider yourself good at something, then it’s more likely to be the case. That’s why you should always be positive with your children’s ability, but I digress. Positive affirmations help you believe in yourself, which improves your performance.

However you must know how to use affirmations if you are to get the best out of them. Here’s a few tips…

How to use affirmations

How To Use AffirmationsWhilst any positive words you say to yourself help, there are some rules that will help you get the best out of positive affirmations. Here they are…

Always be positive

Never use phrases like “I am not dumb”. Your mind will focus on the word “dumb”, which is not helpful. It’s far better to say “I am intelligent”.

Use emotion

Allow yourself to feel as much emotion as you can. Feel dynamic if you’re saying “I am dynamic”. This helps your subconscious mind better absorb and act on the affirmation.

Use the present tense

Don’t say “I will be successful”. This means it will always be in the future – which never happens. Talk about NOW. “I am successful”.

Short and snappy

Long affirmations are more difficult for your subconscious mind to absorb. Keep them short, simple and snappy. “I am a successful leader and people feel strength from me”, would be better as “I am a strong leader”.

Repeat

It’s a good idea to repeat your affirmation at least 10 times to drum it in. Do this daily.

Out loud

It’s fine to repeat affirmations in your head, but even better out loud. This helps you become more involved at a deeper level. If you are in a private place and not shy, shout them loud and proud.

  • I am confident and strong
  • I am a money magnet
